CompostBag Technical Information

CompostBag

CompostBag products are made from compostable bioplastic materials based on corn starch, other plant extracts and vegetable oils. These materials are not only degradabe, but certified biodegradable and compostable. The materials are easily compostable and biodegradable to water, CO2 and residual organic carbon (compost), leaving no harmful residues.

The materials are developed and patented by Novamont Laboratories in Italy.

The physical and mechanical properties of these materials are similar with conventional plastic. However there are some major differences:

CompostBag® products are manufactured by The Compost Bag Company Limited (formerly known as BioBag Limited).

Our liners are made from the latest type of biodegradable and compostable "Mater Bi" material. It is stronger and more flexible and specially suitable for larger bags and liners.

International Certificates

All CompostBag products, bags, sacks, and films are certified compostable and biodegradable according to the European Standard EN 13432, the US Standard ASTM D6400 and the Australian Standard AS 4736.

CompostBag holds compostable and biodegradable certificates issued by several certification institutions like AIB Vincotte (OK Compost), DIN Certco, BPI (USA) as well as other specialised certifications such as the GMO-free certificate.

CompostBag use the best environmentally sound products of the highest quality

EN 13432:2000 "Requirements for packaging recoverable through composting and biodegradation- Test scheme and evaluation criteria for the final acceptance of packaging" (Official Journal of the European Communities L 190 12/07/2001 P.0021-0023)
Certifies the CompostBag's requirements for quality with regard to technical and mechanical properties within its area of use. Certifies that the CompostBag liner is 100% biodegradable and compostable. This certificate is based on the strictest European standard for compostable products, EN 13432.
Certifies that the product is fit fot purpose as well as meeting the standards for compostable products, EN 13432.

Storage

Compostable liners should be stored in a cool dry environment. Liners will not biodegrade in storage, biodegradation will only be initiated in a compost environment in the presence of micro-organisms, humidity and warmth. However, over time, the material may lose some of its mechanical properties and weaken.

To ensure optimum performance we would recommend purchasing no more than you would expect to use over a 12 month period.
